Founded by Anthony Overton Jr., Overton’s was established as a Hygienic Manufacturing company in Kansas City, Kansas to Chicago, Illinois. It is credited for having the first marketed success in selling face powder for women with deep skin tone. Overton’s Hygenic Manufacturing Company was one of many businesses created and operated by Anythony Overton. He was responsible for opening a grocery store, a national bank, a newspaper and a life insurance company among others. His awarded legacy celebrates his place in history as the first African American to lead a major business conglomerate.
