Melba was founded by Francis W. Jones in Chicago, Illinois. The namesake for Melba was an Australian soprano, Dame Nellie Melba. Her celebrity helped market the cosmetic brand. Melba was a top company for at least a decade. The untimely death of Jones put stress on the company, and by the time of the Great Depression, Melba had gone out of business.
