Philip Armour started Armour & Company originally as a soap producer. The soap idea came from his successful Chicago, Illinois meat packing business and a zero-waste philosophy. Armour & Company created a new line, Luxor, and it came with the expansion into cosmetics, perfumes and toiletries. For years Luxor competed as one of the top brands in the market until it was acquired by The Lever Brothers Co. in 1948.
