George W. Luft was trained as a pharmacist and created his own cosmetics company with one brand, Tangee. He produced and sold the first lipstick to change color once applied. It is known for its tangerine color, which inspired the brand’s name. It sold well in the youth market because of its claims of enhancing natural beauty with an undetectable finish. Tangee products are still available today.
