Kimberly Clark developed a filter for gas masks during World War I then used the technology to support menstruating people in her partner company, Kotex. After this success, Kleenex marketed its tissues as a hygienic way to manage colds with a single-use product. Kleenex cosmetic tissues and cold cream became Hollywood staples. Now, Kleenex is the leading brand in facial tissues.
